K-Pop and Transcultural Korean Identity

This research paper was written for Dr. Karen Kleinfelder’s Spring 2020 Art History Methodologies and Writing course. In this paper, I explore how the rise of the (South) Korean wave and Korean pop music (K-pop) alters both national and personal identity for Koreans. In this paper I utilize complexity theory, as well as Judith Butler’s concept of Gender Performance in order to explore the effects of K-pop from an art historical standpoint.
